By Biswajit Biswas

Pakistan vs New Zealand: In a nail-biting encounter, New Zealand secured a thrilling four-run victory over Pakistan in the fourth T20I match held in Lahore on Thursday (April 25).

With this win, New Zealand has taken an unassailable 2-1 lead in the five-match series, showcasing their dominance on the international stage. Batting first after winning the toss, New Zealand set a challenging target of 179 runs for Pakistan.

Pakistan vs New Zealand William O Rourke

Opener Tim Robinson starred with a blistering knock of 51 runs off 36 balls, laying a solid foundation for the visitors. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, contributions from Dean Foxcroft (34) and captain Michael Bracewell (27) propelled New Zealand to a competitive total of 178/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, Pakistan's chase got off to a shaky start as they lost early wickets, including that of captain Babar Azam for just five runs. Despite valiant efforts from Fakhar Zaman, who scored a brilliant 61 off 45 balls, and Iftikhar Ahmed (23), Pakistan fell agonizingly short of the target.

Despite Imad Wasim's valiant unbeaten 22 off 11 balls, Pakistan could only manage 174/8 in their 20 overs, handing New Zealand a hard-fought victory.

New Zealand's bowlers showcased tremendous discipline and skill, with William O'Rourke and Ben Sears picking up crucial wickets at crucial junctures to derail Pakistan's chase. O'Rourke was particularly impressive, finishing with figures of 3/27 in his four overs.

Despite the defeat, Pakistan displayed commendable fighting spirit throughout the match, with standout performances from Fakhar Zaman and Abbas Afridi, who starred with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 20 runs.

With this thrilling win, New Zealand has firmly asserted their supremacy in the T20 format, leaving Pakistan with a mountain to climb in the remaining matches of the series. As the cricketing world applauds New Zealand's resilience and clinical execution, anticipation mounts for the fifth and final T20I showdown between these two formidable teams.
