Pakistan secured a historical victory against Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup 2023 on Tuesday (October 10) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Despite scoring 344/9 after batting first, the Sri Lanka bowling was mauled by Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan chased it down comfortably and won by 6 wickets.

Mohammad Rizwan was the player of the match for his brilliant unbeaten 131 off just 120 balls.
Mohammad Rizwan Comments: (feeling) 'It always a proud moment when you perform for your country. It's a speechless moment. Whenever you chase like that, it is special for you. This is a team game and we did well. Chasing 300 plus is a difficult, the pitch is good. We calculated the innings like 20 overs and what we decided, we got over the line. (on the cramp) Sometimes it's cramp and sometimes I was okay.'

Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka Captain): '(on Kusal Medis) Mendis is in another zone, played an unbelievable knock in the practice game, scored 70+ in the first game and a brilliant hundred here. Moire to come. Sadeera is playing really well. (On poor finish with bat) We should have finished a bit stronger than this. We were 20-25 runs short on this wicket. Credit to them, they were bowling really good slower balls. I can't ask too much from them (bowlers). We have given them simple plans. We need to be concerned about the extras as well. We gave too many extras. We had our chances in the field today but unfortunately we missed it.'
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain): ' (on victory and Rizwan) All credit to the boys and Rizwan, especially after losing early wickets and the way he batted. The way Mendis played was excellent, it was an outstanding knock. But our bowlers pulled it back. (on Abdullah Shafique) I am very happy with the way he is playing. It is his first World Cup and I saw his hunger in the nets. The way Rizwan and Abdullah played, they helped us. It is good that our middle-order responded and stepped up is a positive thing. We just tell ourselves for believing. (on support of Hyderabad) Thank You so much for all the support, we have stayed here for a week. Thanks to the curators.'
