Pakistan Women Cricket Team Turn to Men's Teams for Intense Asia Cup 2026 Prep in Lahore

The Pakistan women's cricket team has opted for an unusual training method to gear up for the upcoming Women's T20 Asia Cup in Dubai. Looking to replicate match pressure, the national squad, led by Fatima Sana, played full 20-over matches against male cricketers from the Abdul Qadir Cricket Academy.

The pre-tournament camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore completely bypassed standard net sessions and scenario-based drills in favour of actual competitive games featuring teenage boys and older male players.

Addressing the Pressure Problem

The core idea behind the move is to sharpen the team's decision-making in crunch situations. The Pakistan side has struggled to hold its nerve during tight finishes recently, notably dropping key moments during the recent T20 World Cup. By forcing the squad into difficult positions against players with higher physical fitness and skill levels, the management hopes to build mental resilience.

Captain Fatima Sana pointed out that learning to handle this specific type of pressure in practice will directly benefit the team once the main tournament begins.

Sana herself enters the Asia Cup with plenty of momentum. She recently returned from England after a stint with the Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred, making history as the first Pakistani woman to play in the franchise competition. She intends to use that top-flight experience to guide her squad in the UAE.

The Road Ahead in Dubai

The Women's T20 Asia Cup will take place in Dubai from August 28 to September 13. Pakistan fans will be eager to see if this rigorous preparation pays off, as the team looks to reach the final for the first time since 2016, when they suffered a narrow 17-run loss to arch-rivals India.

This year, Pakistan slots into Group A alongside India, Thailand, and Hong Kong. Their campaign kicks off against Thailand on September 1, followed by a blockbuster, high-voltage clash against India on September 5. They will wrap up the group stage on September 7 against Hong Kong.
