Pat Cummins became the most expensive buy in the history of the IPL Auction as Sunrirsers Hyderabad broke the Rs 20 crore ceiling for the first time at the IPL Auction 2024 to acquire the services of Cummins at Rs 20.50 crore at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, who finished bottom of the table in the last two IPLs, were evidently in hunt of a new captain and owner Kavya Maran led the bidding war against Royal Challengers Bangalore, who fought tooth and nail with the SRH for the Australian all-rounders. Fans, however, were not too impressed as we take a look at some of the X, formerly Twitter, reactions.

Australia won the World Test Championship in 2023 and the ODI World Cup in November under Cummins' leadership. The bowler, who took wickets of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer to end the Indian innings, had an amazing performance in the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad.
Even though Cummins hasn't always bowled well in Twenty20, the fast bowler has regularly brought a high price in the Indian Premier League. Cummins was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders for an incredible amount of Rs 15.50 crore back in the 2019 auction.
Last year, Sam Curran set a record when he sold for Rs 18.50 crore in the 2023 auction before Cummins shattered that record. The audience at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai and every auction table cheered upon hearing that the 20-crore barrier had been crossed for the first time in the history of the IPL auction.
Cummins joins Travis Head, a teammate from Australia and one of the best recent international hitters, at SRH. Head was previously purchased at auction for Rs 6.8 crore. The purchases made by SRH show that the team's departments have all had new hires. It is anticipated that SRH will alter their favoured starting lineup for the next competition.
