Former captains to select IPL's player of the league

{image-indian premier league_25032008.jpg news.oneindia.in}New Delhi, Mar 25: India's former Test captains Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri will adjudicate the 'Player of the League' Award in the DLF Indian Premier League's (IPL) Twenty20 tournament that gets underway from April 18.
The 'Player of the League' will be given a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh by DLF limited along with a trophy. IPL chairman Lalit Modi said the the choice for the adjudicators was unanimous and their knowledge and involvement will further help to make the tournament a bigger success.
''It gives me great pleasure to announce that three legendary Indian cricketers will adjudicate the 'DLF Player of the League' Award for the inaugural season.
''In Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri, we have a truly world class panel of adjudicators, as these are players who have been successful cricketing icons on the world stage,'' Modi said.
Ravi Shastri, who is a member of the IPL's governing council said, ''It is a privilege and an honour to be a member of the panel that will decide the 'DLF Player of the League' in the DLF Indian Premier League.
''In our effort to make a choice, I feel that we have a major headache on our hands considering the quality of players on view during the inaugural season of the DLF Indian Premier League,'' he added.
The IPL's 44-day event will see some of the world's best cricketers competing against each other as eight franchises have roped in many international stars from across the globe.
