Pathum Nissanka on Friday became the first cricketer from Sri Lanka to hit a double hundred. He achieved the feat at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele against Afghanistan in the first ODI.
The 25-year-old scored unbeaten 210 runs off 139 balls. The innings consisted of 20 fours and eight, and helped Sri Lanka post 381/3 in 50 overs.

The right-hand batter broke Sanath Jayasuriya’s 24-year-old record of slamming the highest ODI individual score for Sri Lanka. The former opener scored 189 runs against India in the 2000 Champions Trophy final.
Nissanka is the 10th batter to score an ODI double ton. The Galle-born brought up the double hundred in just 136 balls - the third-fastest in history of ODI cricket. Ishan Kishan holds the record for the fastest hundred in just 126 balls.
Nissanka and Avishka Fernando partnered for 182 runs for the first wicket. His partnership for the third wicket with Sadeera Samarawickrama (45) accounted for 120 runs. Afghanistan were five down for 59 in 10 overs when this article was published.
