Patiala, Jan 18 (UNI) In a closely contested match, Patiala defeated the fancied Chandigarh outfit by 21 runs here today at the Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium in the inaugural Faqir Chand Mittal Cricket Tournament being played on the pattern of Katoch Shield.
The 50-over match was curtailed to 40 overs each side due to light showers which delayed the match.
Patiala won the toss and elected to bat first. Ravi Inder played a hurricane knock of 89 which contained 5 fours and 3 huge sixes, while Perry Goyal, selected for the Junior World Cup to be played in Malaysia next month, scored a breezy 46, hitting 5 boundaries.
H Chawla (25) and T Bawa (21) were the other scorers for Patiala, who were all out for 220.
For Chandigarh, Siddharth Kaul, who is in the Indian junior World Cup team, took 2 for 31 and Gurkirat too took equal number of wickets, conceding 63 runs.
In reply, Chandigarh were bowled out for 199 in 38.3 overs. Uday Kaul scored a fine half century (55), which was studded with 7 fours, though the effort was not enough to overtake Patiala's total of 220. The other run getters were S Bawa (29) and V Bhalla (23).
For Patiala, S Ladda bowled magnificently to capture 5 wickets, giving away 40 runs. Ankur Jund and H Chawla took 2 wickets each, giving away 30 and 15 runs respectively.
Patiala's next match here is against the Minor Districts on January 20.
