Patiala defeat Minor Districts in inter-district cricket

Patiala, May 16 (UNI) Patiala inflicted an ignominious defeat on the lowly-placed Minor Districts in the opening match of Punjab Inter-District cricket for M L Markan Trophy (Under-16) on the final day here at the Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium.

Patiala, who were 272 for five in 61.4 overs yesterday, declared the innings straightaway. In the second essay, Minor Districts were again bundled out for a meager 136 in 48.2 overs.

One of their batsmen was retired hurt and did not return to bat.

Mahavir, who scored a neat half century (56), studded with eight fours, was the only Minor Districts batsman who played with some authority. Vikas Lamba (21) was the other batsman to hang on for a while. In the first innings, Minor Districts were all out for 80 in 30.5 overs yesterday.

For Patiala, Gauravpreet bowled exceedingly well to capture 4 wickets, conceding just 11 runs, while Pradeep Kumar and Sandeep Sharma bagged two wickets each, giving away 30 and 38 runs respectively.

Patiala won the match by an inning and 62 runs and earned three points. Patiala will play against Jalandhar here on May 18 and 19.
