Pawar backs Sehwag, draws parallels with Ganguly
Bangalore, Mar 10 (UNI) Beleagured India opener Virender Sehwag found a voice of support in none other than Sharad Pawar and the BCCI chief today exuded confidence that the dashing Delhi bat will be back among runs soon.
Experiencing a prolonged lean patch, Sehwag failed once again yesterday when he was out for a duck in the warm-up match against the West Indies. Nonetheless, Mr Pawar reposed his faith in the batsman.
''He will bounce back. There will always be ups and downs in the game,'' the BCCI president said when asked to comment on the batsman's flop show.
He pointed out Sourav Ganguly as an example and said the southpaw had regained his touch and was now a pillar of the team.
Meanwhile, Mr Pawar also lamented that too much of expection was pushing the Indian Team hard even as he wished Dravid's boys all the best in the World Cup beginning tomorrow.
''Too much of expectations is pushing the team hard and that might affect the performance. It should not happen,'' he said on the sidelines of the felicitation function organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
Comparing to the 1983 Kapil's Devils who won the World Cup in England, Mr Pawar said the current side was a good one one with strong battling line up and fielding improved tremendously.
He said that he might visit West Indies for the Cup if he got a respite during the ongoing Parliament session.
