PBKS Owner Preity Zinta Returns in Aamir Khan’s ‘Lahore 1947’ with Sunny Deol – New Period Drama After Pahalgam 2025 Attack

PBKS owner Preity Zinta is finally stepping back into the world of cinema after a long hiatus. And not just in any film. She’s returning in 'Lahore 1947’, a powerful period drama produced by Aamir Khan, co-starring Sunny Deol, and directed by the legendary Rajkumar Santoshi.

The film just wrapped up a jam-packed, no-break 70-day shoot and features one of the most ambitious scenes ever attempted in a Partition-era movie: a grand, high-stakes train sequence that’s expected to become iconic. The story is based on Asghar Wajahat’s renowned play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Ni, and unfolds around a Muslim family navigating post-Partition upheaval in Lahore.

Scheduled to release in June 2025, the film comes just months after the tragic 2025 Pahalgam attack, one of the deadliest terror strikes in India since 2008.

PBKS Owner Preity Zinta Returns to Acting After 7 Years in Lahore 1947

After dedicating years to her role as the face and co-owner of Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL, Preity Zinta is ready to light up the screen once again. Her last major film role was back in 2018, and fans have been eagerly waiting for her comeback. In Lahore 1947, she takes on a deeply emotional character, alongside Sunny Deol, whose powerful presence is a perfect match for the intensity of the story. For fans of classic Bollywood drama and powerful acting, this duo brings the heat.

Aamir Khan Produces, Rajkumar Santoshi Directs, Sunny Deol Co-Leads

'Lahore 1947’ is being produced by Aamir Khan Productions, with Aamir Khan himself stepping behind the camera as producer. Known for picking projects with emotional depth and cultural significance, Aamir is teaming up with Rajkumar Santoshi, the director who gave us films like Ghatak, Andaz Apna Apna, and Damini. The film stars Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in pivotal roles and promises to deliver a compelling portrayal of human conflict, identity, and survival set during one of the most painful periods in Indian history.

The filming of Lahore 1947 wrapped up in August 2024 after an intense 70-day schedule. And they didn’t take a single break. A source close to the team shared (via India Today):

"The shooting for Lahore 1947 has concluded after an intensive 70-day schedule. The schedule was completed without breaks. It has been fantastic to witness the stalwart actors bring a magical quality to the film. While there will be some patchwork once the edit is locked, the main shooting is done. Raj ji (Santoshi) is thrilled with what has been captured, especially with the elaborate crowd sequences."

But what really stands out is the grand train sequence shot for the climax. Described as one of the most ambitious scenes ever filmed in a Partition-era story, this sequence is expected to raise the bar for historical realism and emotional impact in Indian cinema.

Based on an Iconic Play, Set in the Heart of Partition

Inspired by Asghar Wajahat’s stage play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Ni, the story follows a Muslim family migrating from Lucknow to Lahore during the 1947 Partition. On arriving, they’re assigned a haveli that was abandoned by a Hindu family. But to their shock, an elderly Hindu woman is still living there. What follows is an intense, emotional conflict layered with questions of faith, identity, grief, and belonging. It’s raw. It’s real. And it reflects the human side of a historical tragedy.

Why the Release Timing Matters: After the 2025 Pahalgam Attack

What makes the release of Lahore 1947 even more significant is the timing. The film is set to release in June 2025, just months after the April 22 Pahalgam attack - a devastating act of terror where five militants attacked Hindu tourists in Baisaran Valley, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 people and injuring over 20 others. The attack has been described as the deadliest since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Initially, The Resistance Front (TRF), linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility, citing opposition to non-locals settling in Kashmir. However, they retracted the claim just four days later. The incident escalated tensions between India and Pakistan dramatically. India responded by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, expelling Pakistani diplomats, and shutting the borders.

In retaliation, Pakistan pulled back from the Simla Agreement, halted trade, and closed its airspace. Border skirmishes between Indian and Pakistani forces erupted along the Line of Control from April 24 onward.

AR Rahman on Music, June 2025 as the New Release Date

Originally meant for a 26 January 2025 release, the film has been pushed to June 2025 due to ongoing post-production work. The music for the film is composed by A.R. Rahman, whose ability to blend soul and sound is expected to add a haunting beauty to the emotional weight of the film.

With Preity Zinta back on screen, Sunny Deol in warrior mode, Aamir Khan guiding the vision, and Rajkumar Santoshi shaping the narrative, this one’s got all the heart, history, and honesty we need. No frills. No filters. Just a damn good story we all need to watch.
