PBKS Remaining Purse in IPL 2025: Ahead of the mega auction, Punjab Kings have taken the bold decision of retaining only two uncapped players, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh.
Shashank Singh, PBKS’s first retention for ₹5.5 crore, was one of the best success stories of IPL 2024, scoring 354 runs with a strike rate of nearly 165. He finished the season as PBKS’s highest run-scorer, overtaking the likes of Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan.

Prabhsimran Singh was the team’s second and last retention for ₹4 crore, as the young batter scored 334 with a strike rate of more than 156 last season.
Opting to retain only two uncapped players, the Punjab Kings hierarchy spent a meagre sum of ₹9.5 crore in the retentions. This is the lowest amount paid by any team this season so far, which will translate into a large sum of money that the PBKS will have in the upcoming mega auction.
Punjab Kings enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with a record-breaking purse of ₹110.5 crore, the highest ever held by a franchise.
By retaining only two uncapped players, PBKS has strategically opted to release nearly their entire squad, positioning themselves to make impactful, high-value acquisitions. Notably, PBKS also holds four Right to Match (RTM) cards, providing the flexibility to reclaim up to four capped players. This unique advantage may allow the franchise to rebuild its core around quality players, especially focusing on proven Indian talents.
The franchise’s restructuring follows a disappointing 2024 season and the retirement announcement from their former captain, Shikhar Dhawan. Now under the guidance of new head coach Ricky Ponting, PBKS aims to redefine their roster with players who can turn around their fortunes.
Likely targets include marquee Indian names such as Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Yuzvendra Chahal, as the team seeks to strengthen its domestic talent base. With big-name overseas players like David Miller, Faf du Plessis, and Jos Buttler up for grabs, PBKS may look to secure experienced international stars to enhance both leadership and match-winning abilities.
PBKS’s auction strategy will likely revolve around bringing back pivotal players through RTM cards. Former squad members such as Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran, and Kagiso Rabada may be top choices for re-signing, as they were instrumental in previous seasons. However, uncapped players like Ashutosh Sharma and Harpreet Brar were released, potentially indicating a shift in the team’s approach to youth development.
