After defeating the five-time-champion Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings are ready to welcome them at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Sunday (May 5).
In their past battles, CSK has a slight edge, as they have 15 wins against Punjab's 14 wins in their 29 encounters. Though in their last five face-offs, PBKS have won all of them.

With only four wins in ten matches, PBKS is sitting eighth in the points table. Though in their last two matches, they made a comeback. First, they defeated KKR by the highest-ever successful run-chase in IPL history and then defeated the defending champions by 7 wickets.
On the other hand, despite having a good start CSK are struggling by losing three of their last four matches. The Chennai side is now placed in fifth position in the points table.
The pacer-heavy Punjab bowling side features Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, Sam Curran and Harshal Patel in their pace attack. The spin department will be managed by Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar. The HPCA ground is expected to help the pacers, and it will be a challenge for them to exploit the chances to defeat the in-form CSK top order.
Whereas for CSK, the situation has suddenly become gloomy. Mustafizur Rahman will play no further part in this season due to the national commitments. Tushar Deshpande missed the last match due to flu, and chances to play against Punjab will depend on his recovery speed.
Deepak Chahar has also been ruled out of the remainder of this IPL. Matheesha Pathirana also missed the last match due to a niggle, though he is expected to be back in this match.
Richard Gleeson, the replacement for Devon Conway, might feature in this game for the first time. The spin department will be led by Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali in this match also. Mukesh Chowdhury can replace Deshpande if he fails to recover.
Harshal Patel (PBKS): The 33-year-old right-arm medium-fast has picked 14 wickets so far in this IPL. Despite being expensive, Patel managed to scalp opponent batters in the crucial times. It will be expected of him to continue his wicket-taking spree in this match also.
Arshdeep Singh (PBKS): The Indian left-arm medium-fast bowler has now 13 wickets in this IPL. Along with the skipper Sam Curran, he will play a vital role to stop in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has fallen short against left-handed pacers five times this season. The duel between the CSK top-order and this PBKS fast bowler can decide the fate of the match.
Matheesha Pathirana (CSK): the Srilankan youngster has been phenomenal in the middle overs this season. The 22-year-old right-arm fast bowler has bagged 13 wickets in just six matches. His unique bowling action and fiery speed will be crucial against Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma in the middle overs.
Ravindra Jadeja (CSK): The 35-year-old veteran left-arm spinner far from his best form. If Deshpande misses the match, Jadeja has to take his game to the next level to contain the PBKS middle order.
So far in this campaign Jadeja managed to get only five wickets. It is high time for the seasoned allrounder to repeat some glimpses of his past performances in this match against Punjab.
PBKS have the momentum and confidence after the last two matches. Also returning to the form of Bairstow gives them an extra boost. Also, Punjab bowling has stepped up at the right moment.
On the other hand, over-dependence on Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube might backfire on the defending champions. Any defeat at this moment may put their play-off dreams in jeopardy. Hence, a highly competitive battle can be expected from these two rivals in this Sunday afternoon thriller.
