On the second day of Indian Premier League 2024 Punjab Kings will start their campaign by facing Delhi Capitals at Maharaja Yadavindra Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali on March 23.
PBKS and DC have met each other on 32 occasions in total and both have won 16 matches each. Both teams are yet to get their hands on the IPL trophy and would be desperate to accomplish that this season.

Both the teams have strong bowling squads but the bowling unit of Punjab is somewhat fast bowlers-heavy while the DC bowling squad is more balanced, possessing big names in both the pace and spin departments.
Delhi Capitals have bowlers like Axar Patel, Mitchell Marsh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma and Khaleel Ahmed, who all have ample amounts of exposure in IPL or international crickets and on many past occasions, one or two magical spells from them can change the fate of the match.
PBKS on the other hand will lack the diversity their opponent has. They will be mainly relied upon Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, Sam Curran, Rahul Chahar, Harshal Patel and Harpreet Brar. Besides them, comparatively less experienced bowlers like Nathan Ellis, Vidhwath Kaverappa, and Tanay Thyagarajan can be game-changers for PBKS.
PBKS vs DC: Venue and Pitch Condition
The match between PBKS and DC will be played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Stadium. The venue is still untested as it is set to host its first IPL match on March 23. The initial pitch report suggests that it is going to be a very flat pitch which will be in favour of the batters. According to the stats from the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches hosted on this ground, chasing has been difficult here. As IPL is going to be played at night, the dew factor can help the team batting second on this pitch.
Arshdeep Singh: The Madhya Pradesh-born fast bowler has been with the Punjab squad for a long time and remains one of the best performers for PBKS. He played 51 matches to date in IPL and took 57 wickets. Arshdeep Singh remains consistent across the seasons and in the last IPL, he got 17 wickets which made him the highest wicket-taker for the Punjab side. It is expected to see a glimpse of his previous deeds in the match against the Capitals.
Sam Curran: The English allrounder is going to be vital against Delhi Capitals with both of his batting and bowling abilities. Besides being an aggressive batter he was also able to take wickets with his medium-fast bowling. Last season he took 10 wickets in 14 matches. PBKS will be hoping for another successful match for him against the DC to start their campaign with a win.
Axar Patel: In the last IPL Patel had the best stats among the DC bowlers. The bowling allrounder got 11 wickets in 14 matches with a decent economy rate. Till now the Indian allrounder collected 112 wickets in IPL with a 7.24 economy rate. Patel along with Kuldeep Yadav will be crucial for DC against PBKS.
Kuldeep Yadav: The 'Chinaman' bowler has already proven himself in IPL. He is the most successful left-arm wrist spinner in the IPL. In the last two seasons, he collected 31 wickets in total for DC playing 28 matches. This season he will spearhead the spin bowling squad for DC.
Both teams will try their best to begin their quest for IPL 2024 with a victory. As it will be the first match in this venue the pitch may favour the batters but there will be other factors which might help the bowlers too and we will be hoping for an exciting duel between PBKS and DC on this weekend-eve.
