PBKS vs DC, IPL 2026: When Was The Last Time An IPL Match Featured Only Pacers?

The Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals clash in Dharamsala on May 11, 2026, produced a rare IPL sight. It was only the second time that both the captains relied solely on express pace, i.e., 40 overs of pace. During the contest, out of all the bowlers, PBKS pacer Arshdeep Singh was the most economical bowler, giving away just 21 runs from his quota of four overs.

Across his four overs, Arshdeep Singh kept tight control and emerged as the most effective bowler from either side. Despite being selected in the playing XI, leading spinners Yuzvendra Chahal for PBKS and Axar Patel for DC did not bowl.

When Was The Last Time 40 Overs Were Bowled By Pacers?

This was only the second IPL match where captains skipped spin options completely. The previous instance came during the 2008 season, when Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, and only pacers were used throughout.

PBKS vs DC: How Can Punjab Still Qualify For Playoffs?

Despite the defeat, the Punjab Kings remain in a relatively stronger position in the points table. With 13 points from 11 matches, the Shreyas Iyer-led side still controls its own destiny.

Punjab has three league matches remaining, and their path is straightforward on paper. Winning at least two of those games will take them to 17 points, which should be enough to secure a playoff berth without relying on other results. A clean sweep, taking them to 19 points, would comfortably guarantee qualification.

However, the situation becomes tricky if PBKS manages just one win. Finishing on 15 points could leave them vulnerable, especially if teams like Chennai Super Kings or Rajasthan Royals close in with a superior Net Run Rate (NRR).

On the other hand, if PBKS sinks into a downward spiral and loses both of their remaining matches, it would leave Iyer's side in a tricky situation with just 13 points. The likelihood of elimination will also increase as a result.
