Kolkata Knight Riders new boy Shardul Thakur has made an underwhelming start to his life at his new team. The Indian all-rounder made his debut for KKR on Saturday (April 1) against Punjab Kings, but couldn't provide the goods with the ball.
KKR chose to bow after winning the toss and Shardul Thakur was introduced to the attack in the 7th over of the match. And the Indian bowler was taken apart by Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Shikhar Dhawan.

Shardul Thakur conceded 43 runs in his 4 overs and proved to be massively expensive. He conceded 4 boundaries and also bowled a waist-high no ball. It was a lacklustre performance from the former Delhi Capitals player who was traded in by KKR ahead of this season.
With this, the KKR player has bagged an unwanted IPL record. Shardul Thakur's name will now be associated with the record of conceding the most 40+ runs in an IPL game. The PBKS game on Saturday (April 1) is Thakur's 17th instance where the bowler has conceded more than 40 runs in a single IPL inning since 2017.
Thakur has overtaken Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna in the list, who each have conceded 40 or more on 16 occasions. The KKR bowler has always been an expensive customer with the ball. His ODI economy is 6.23 (35 innings), while the player has gone over 9 runs per over in both T20Is and IPL matches. Thakur has 82 IPL wickets to his name but couldn't pick any on his debut for KKR.

PBKS scored 191/5 in their 20 overs. The match has taken a halt midway as a floodlight mishap at the IS Bindra Stadium means there will be a delay in the KKR run chase.
