Punjab Kings achieved a historic 16-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 31 of IPL 2025, held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
Defending a modest total of 111, the lowest ever successfully defended in IPL history, PBKS showcased exceptional bowling prowess to secure the win.

Opting to bat first, PBKS faced a formidable KKR bowling attack. Openers Prabhsimran Singh (30 off 15) and Priyansh Arya (22 off 12) provided a brisk start, but the middle order faltered against disciplined bowling. Harshit Rana led KKR's bowling with figures of 3/25, while Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine each claimed two wickets, restricting PBKS to a below-par total.
Chasing a modest target, KKR's innings unraveled quickly. Early dismissals of Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock set the tone for a collapse. Despite Angkrish Raghuvanshi's 37 off 28 balls, KKR couldn't stabilize the innings. Yuzvendra Chahal's exceptional spell of 4/28 dismantled the middle order, and Marco Jansen's 3/17 sealed the fate of KKR, who were bowled out for 95.
Punjab Kings were down at out at the midway stage, but somehow garnered the resilience to do a houdini's act as they beat the Knight Riders. There were many moments which gave small warnings of the match swinging, but the real turn came when Yuzvendra Chahal weaved his magic in his third over.
Chahal got Rinku Singh stumped, and then in the very next ball, Ramandeep Singh's brain fade provided another wicket to the veteran India spinner. From 74 for 5 and shaky, KKR slumped into 76 for 7 and tottering - enough avenue for Punjab Kings to roar and dismantle the armoury of the defending champions.
