Kolkata Knight Riders will commence their IPL 2023 journey with a clash against Punjab Kings on Saturday (April 1) at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
Both Knight Riders and Punjab Kings had a disappointing tournament last year. KKR finished 7th in the table with 12 points while Punjab finished a place better, with a couple of points more.

Both teams have captaincy changes at the start of this IPL. Punjab Kings appointed Shikhar Dhawan as the captain for this season while Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Nitish Rana as the captain in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who is sidelined with a back injury and may miss the entirety of the tournament.

It will be a battle between two novice captains in the IPL. Punjab Kings are in front of their home crowd and will be expecting a decent start. But KKR, on the other hand, have some match winners in their team who can win the match for them in a matter of overs. It promises to be a crunch encounter as PBKS will be playing at their home ground for the first time since 2019.
But KKR do have the edge in this match and will be starting just a bit ahead of the home side. Although there is not a lot to separate between the two sides, we predict KKR will start the campaign with two points.
