PCA Stadium Pitch Report

The PCA has provided some early assistance for quick bowlers, but like most wickets in the country, the pitches in Mohali is batting friendly. The average score batting first in IPL at the venue is 167. The venue also recently saw a team post the second highest total in IPL.

History says the team chasing has had an advantage at the venue, but in IPL 2023, three matches have seen the team bat first come out victorious. However, two of those wins were the noon matches and one of two night matches saw the team chasing win.

The first match of 2023 season saw the hosts dominate with the bat, scoring a total of 191 and followed that with some disciplined bowling led by Arshdeep Singh to restrict KKR to 146/7 in 16 overs before rain stopped play. The match was awarded to PBKS by 7 runs via DLS Method.

In the second match, which was a 7 pm start, put into bat, PBKS struggled on their way to post a target of 154, which was chased down by the defending champions GT in the penultimate delivery of the match with 6 wickets in hand.

In the third match, which was a 3:30 PM start, RCB rode on fifties from Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis to post a total of 174 before Mohammed Siraj's 4 for 21 spell helped bundle out PBKS for 150 to seal a 24-run win.

In the most recent match, LSG posted a mammoth total of 257 for 5 riding on fifties from Kyle Mayers and Marcus Stoinis before restricting the home side - PBKS to 201 as Atharva Taide's maiden IPL fifty went in vain.
