PBKS vs MI IPL 2025: Punjab Kings Create History, Break Mumbai Indians' Winning Streak In IPL

PBKS vs MI: In a landmark IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Punjab Kings (PBKS) scripted history by breaking one of the most remarkable streaks in the league's history.

Mumbai Indians (MI), undefeated in matches where they posted 200+ batting first-until now-finally saw that proud record shattered as PBKS powered their way to a five-wicket win and a berth in the IPL final.

PBKS vs MI

This was not just a win-it was a statement. And at the heart of it stood Shreyas Iyer, whose sensational unbeaten 87 off 41 balls proved to be the knockout blow in one of the season's most dramatic encounters.

Opting to bat first, Mumbai Indians looked on course to extend their dominant streak. Contributions came in from Jonny Bairstow (38 off 24), Tilak Varma (44 off 29) and Suryakumar Yadav (44 off 26), with late fireworks by Naman Dhir (37 off 18). At 203/6, MI had once again crossed the 200-run mark-a zone that had traditionally meant victory for them. Prior to this clash, MI had never lost a match in IPL history when scoring 200 or more batting first.

But PBKS had other plans.

Punjab Kings' chase got off to a shaky start, losing Prabhsimran Singh early and Priyansh Arya after a quick cameo. At 55/2, the game hung in the balance. But a blistering 38 from Josh Inglis, including a 20-run over off Jasprit Bumrah-the legendary pacer's most expensive over of IPL 2025-swung momentum back towards PBKS.

Then came the moment that changed everything: Shreyas Iyer walked in and turned the tie on its head.

The PBKS skipper played an innings of extraordinary class under pressure, lacing 5 fours and 8 sixes en route to a stunning 87 off 41 deliveries*, scoring at a strike rate of 212.20. With support from Nehal Wadhera (48 off 29), Iyer orchestrated a calm, calculated chase that kept the required run rate in check.

Even as wickets fell at the other end, Iyer held his ground and finished the match with an over to spare-ensuring there were no last-minute jitters.

Despite having one of the best bowling attacks in the league, MI's bowlers failed to deliver on the big stage. Jasprit Bumrah (0/40), who had been nearly unplayable all season, looked out of sorts. Ashwani Kumar was hammered for 55 in 4 overs, and Reece Topley went at 13.3 runs per over. Even Trent Boult, usually rock-solid, couldn't stem the flow of runs.

With this famous win, PBKS enter their first IPL final in 11 years, where they'll face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in what promises to be a thrilling contest. As for MI, their impressive campaign comes to an end-but not without the sting of seeing one of their proudest records fall.

For Punjab Kings, this was more than just a semifinal-it was a legacy-defining night. And for Shreyas Iyer, it was a captain's knock that will be remembered as one of the finest in IPL playoff history. The streak is over. History is made. Punjab Kings march on.
