PBKS vs MI: Suryakumar Yadav has elevated his status as a modern-day T20 great, delivering a standout campaign in the IPL 2025 that has seen him rewrite Mumbai Indians' record books.
In a stellar batting display during MI's final league game against Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 26, the Indian T20I skipper brought up his fifth half-century of the season - and with it, a historic milestone.

With his latest knock, Suryakumar took his tally to 640 runs in 14 matches, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record of 618 runs, set back in 2010. Tendulkar's tally had stood as the highest single-season run count by a Mumbai Indians batter for 15 years, until SKY's sizzling form in 2025 knocked it off its perch.
This is also the second time in his IPL career that Suryakumar has crossed the 600-run barrier. He had earlier achieved the feat in 2023, scoring 605 runs in 16 games as Mumbai made it to Qualifier 2. Two years on, he has not only bettered that performance but done so with unmatched authority - boasting a strike rate of almost 168, the best of his career in a full IPL season.
With MI securing a playoff spot, the 33-year-old right-hander has a golden opportunity to etch his name deeper into the league's elite records. Should he add another 60 runs, he will become the first-ever Mumbai Indians batter to cross 700 runs in a single IPL season. Only two Indian players have reached that landmark in the past - Virat Kohli, who has done it twice (2016 and 2024), and Shubman Gill (2023).
Suryakumar's form has been pivotal to Mumbai's resurgence in the latter half of the tournament, with the franchise building momentum at just the right time. His blend of flamboyance, consistency, and clutch performances has made him not just MI's batting backbone, but arguably the league's most impactful player this season.
In the ongoing match, SKY's 39-ball 57 propelled Mumbai to 184/7 after 20 overs of play.
As the playoffs loom, all eyes will be on SKY - not just to extend his purple patch, but potentially guide Mumbai Indians to a record-extending sixth IPL title.
