PBKS vs MI: In a high-octane IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Punjab Kings (PBKS) stormed into the final with a commanding five-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI).
Chasing a stiff 204-run target, PBKS rode on a stunning unbeaten knock by their captain Shreyas Iyer, whose 87* off just 41 balls turned the tide and proved to be the definitive turning point of the contest.

Earlier, after being asked to bat first, MI openers got the team off to a decent start. After Rohit Sharma's disappointing show, Jonny Bairstow chipped in with a fiery 38 (24). Middle-order contributions came from Tilak Varma (44 off 29) and Suryakumar Yadav (44 off 26) as MI seemed set for a 210+ total.
However, a late comeback by PBKS bowlers-led by Azmatullah Omarzai (2/32) and Vijaykumar Vyshak (1/30)-helped peg the scoring back. Despite Naman Dhir's quick 37 (18), MI managed 203/6 in 20 overs, leaving the game evenly poised.
PBKS didn't begin smoothly, losing Prabhsimran Singh early and then Priyansh Arya after a promising 20 off 10 balls. With the score at 55/2, it was Josh Inglis who momentarily seized control, hammering a 21-ball 38, including a jaw-dropping 20-run over off Jasprit Bumrah - the pacer's most expensive in IPL 2025. But Inglis' dismissal at 72/3 left the game in the balance.
From there, it was all about Shreyas Iyer. Calm, authoritative, and devastating when needed, the PBKS skipper played a captain's innings for the ages. He mixed elegance with power, carving the field with 5 fours and 8 sixes, scoring at a strike rate of 212.20.
He found a solid partner in Nehal Wadhera (48 off 29), and the duo's 84-run partnership laid the foundation. Even after Wadhera and Shashank Singh departed in quick succession, Iyer stood tall, finishing the game in the 19th over, ensuring there were no last-over dramas.
MI's bowlers, so reliable throughout the season, failed to contain the charge. Trent Boult was average, but Ashwani Kumar (2/55) and Jasprit Bumrah (0/40) had uncharacteristically off days. Even Reece Topley's 13.3 economy added to the misery.
With this victory, Punjab Kings now move into their first IPL final since 2014, setting up a much-anticipated clash with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. As for Mumbai Indians, despite a solid campaign and big individual performances, they fall one step short.
But on the night, it was Shreyas Iyer's captain's knock-timely, composed, and dominant-that stood out as the game's defining moment.
