PBKS vs MI IPL 2025: Why Richard Gleeson Is Not Playing In Today's Qualifier 2 Match?

PBKS vs MI: The spotlight is firmly on Ahmedabad as the Narendra Modi Stadium hosts the all-important Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025. On June 1, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians are set to battle it out for a coveted place in the final, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru awaits.

It's a high-pressure knockout encounter - the winner progresses to the grand finale, while the loser's campaign ends tonight.

PBKS vs MI

As the captains made their way for the toss, Punjab Kings won it and chose to bowl first - a decision influenced by overhead conditions and the pressure of chasing in a do-or-die game. During the toss proceedings, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya confirmed a notable change in their lineup: English fast bowler Richard Gleeson is unavailable for this clash.

Gleeson's absence stems from an injury he sustained during the Eliminator against Gujarat Titans. In that match, he was unable to complete his final over, walking off midway due to discomfort. Ashwani Kumar was called upon to finish the remaining deliveries. Later, it was revealed that Gleeson is suffering from a hamstring niggle, ruling him out of this must-win game against Punjab Kings.

In his place, Mumbai Indians have brought in left-arm pacer Reece Topley, who now gets his first outing in the playoffs this season. Known for his ability to swing the ball early and bowl effectively at the death, Topley will look to make the most of this high-pressure opportunity.

Speaking at the toss, Pandya acknowledged the challenge of playing back-to-back knockout matches.

''We had to make one change. Reece comes in place of Gleeson who has a niggle. Reece Topley comes in'', the Mumbai captain said at the toss before the match saw a delay due to rain.

With so much on the line, both sides are geared up for a fierce battle, but Gleeson's absence could be a significant factor for Mumbai Indians.
