Dharamshala, May 18: Out of contention in playoff race, Punjab Kings will host Rajasthan Royals for round two showdown in match 66 of IPL 2023 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Friday (May 19).
Both Shikhar Dhawan-led PBKS and Sanju Samson’s RR, who are out virtually out of the top four race, will look to bounce back and finish the season on a high after their recent results against Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore respectively.
As it stands, PBKS occupy the eighth spot and will be desperate to end the season a little higher in table as the tournament reaches closing stages, while RR, who are in sixth position in the IPL 2023 points table, will also look to do the same.
Punjab Kings will be a confident side following the reverse fixture result against RR, but will be wary of their overall and recent record against RR, who make their first visit to the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Friday (May 18).
In the 25 meetings between the two sides in IPL so far, RR has won 14 times against PBKS, who have won 11 times. Despite losing the reverse fixture, RR also hold the advantage in recent meetings, having beaten PBKS four times in the last 6 matches.
In the reverse fixture at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, PBKS rode on openers Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan fifties to set a target of 198 and managed to restrict the hosts to 192 to seal a 5-run win thanks to Nathan Ellis’ spell of 4 for 30.
In Dharamshala at the HPCA Stadium, RR and PBKS have never clashed so far. PBKS, however, will have enough knowledge about the venue, which they have so far treated as their second home.
