PBKS vs RR: Jofra Archer caught sleeping under blanket during match, moment goes viral on social media

By MyKhel Staff

PBKS vs RR: In a rare and bizarre sight during a high-octane IPL match, Rajasthan Royals pacer Jofra Archer was seen napping under a blanket in the dressing room even as the action continued out in the middle.

The unexpected moment was caught on camera by the official broadcaster during the first innings of the Punjab Kings vs Rajasthan Royals clash at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Saturday.

The visuals of Archer comfortably lying down with a blanket covering him sparked a flurry of reactions across social media platforms. It appeared as though he had dozed off in the middle of the innings while his teammates were battling it out against a well-drilled Punjab Kings bowling attack.

To add to the moment's oddity, Archer was shown sleeping just seconds before Yashasvi Jaiswal -- who had looked in fine touch -- was clean bowled by a knuckleball from Lockie Ferguson. The dismissal broke the backbone of RR's innings and left fans bemused over the timing of the cut to the dressing room.

One fan humorously commented that it looked like Archer had been treated to a heavy Rajasthani meal, joking, "Lagta h Jofra Archer ko dal bati khila di, itne maze se so raha hai. (Seems like Jofra Archer was fed dal bati {traditional Rajasthani dish}, that's why sleeping like a baby)." Another pointed out the coincidence between Jaiswal's dismissal and Archer's nap, saying, "Yashaswi Jaiswal was bowled on next bowl while Jofra Archer was sleeping."

Earlier, Royals had won the toss and were batting first, getting off to a solid start courtesy of a steady partnership between Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The two put together an 89-run stand after navigating through a cautious powerplay. Jaiswal went on to score a measured 67 off 45 deliveries, bringing up his fifty with a boundary and following it up with a six. However, Ferguson's clever change of pace undid the southpaw, bowling him shortly after Samson was dismissed for 38.

As the innings progressed, RR began to lose momentum. Nitish Rana showed glimpses of aggression with back-to-back boundaries before holing out to Glenn Maxwell. At the 15-over mark, Rajasthan stood at 142/3 with Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer at the crease, trying to finish strong.

Meanwhile, Jofra Archer's presence in the squad remains crucial for the Royals, especially with his responsibilities lying primarily in the second innings. Known for his lethal pace and pinpoint yorkers, Archer has often been the X-factor in pressure situations. However, his nap has raised questions -- whether it was due to fatigue, illness, or simply a moment of relaxed focus remains unclear.

While power naps before a game or during breaks are not unheard of in professional sports, to see a player visibly sleeping under a blanket during the match is undeniably unusual, especially in a format as fast-paced and intense as T20. Whether or not it affects Archer's performance with the ball remains to be seen, but the moment has already etched itself into IPL's long list of unexpected viral moments.
