PBKS vs RR: Riyan Parag or Yashasvi Jaiswal, Who was the Unsung Hero of Rajasthan Royals' Crucial Victory?

By MyKhel Staff

PBKS vs RR Unsung Hero: In a game where Jofra Archer's fiery spell grabbed most of the headlines, it was Yashasvi Jaiswal's determined knock that laid the foundation for Rajasthan Royals' dominant 50-run victory over Punjab Kings in IPL 2025.

While Archer's early strikes tilted the game firmly in Royals' favour, Jaiswal's timely return to form ensured Rajasthan had the scoreboard pressure firmly on their side at Mullanpur.

Jaiswal's Return to Form - Perfect Timing for Royals

Yashasvi Jaiswal entered the contest with a point to prove. After an underwhelming start to the season and murmurs surrounding his domestic switch from Mumbai to Goa, the stylish left-hander responded in the best possible way - with runs and resilience.

Jaiswal's 67-run knock may not have been the flashiest of innings, but it was priceless in the context of the game. Rajasthan Royals needed someone to anchor their innings and provide momentum at the top. The 22-year-old did just that, mixing caution with aggression to navigate the powerplay and capitalise on scoring opportunities.

The Royals' openers put together their most assured powerplay performance this season, reaching 53 without loss in the first six overs. Importantly, Jaiswal was proactive against Punjab's new-ball attack, picking his moments to attack while ensuring the scoreboard never stagnated.

Perhaps the most underrated aspect of Jaiswal's innings was his ability to weather the tough phases. Alongside Sanju Samson, he negotiated the disciplined spells from Kagiso Rabada and Lockie Ferguson. His fifty - the slowest of his IPL career - reflected a maturity and awareness of the match situation rather than any struggles with form.

Once he crossed his half-century, Jaiswal shifted gears effortlessly. He went after Yuzvendra Chahal with a boundary and a six, forcing the Punjab spinner out of the attack prematurely. He also targeted Marcus Stoinis, collecting 17 runs in an over to re-assert Rajasthan's dominance.

His knock may have ended on 67 after falling to Ferguson, but the damage had been done. Jaiswal's innings had already set the stage for a late flourish from the Royals' middle-order, allowing them to post a daunting 205 - the highest total ever at Mullanpur.

Why Jaiswal Deserves the 'Unsung Hero' Tag

While Riyan Parag chipped in with a late cameo and Archer stole the spotlight with the ball, it was Jaiswal who quietly turned the match in Rajasthan's favour. His ability to hold the innings together when the team needed stability and then accelerate at the right time was the hallmark of a complete T20 innings.

In high-scoring T20 games, it's often the flashy finishes or fiery bowling spells that capture attention. Yet, the architect of the big total is often the one who goes unnoticed. For Rajasthan Royals in Mullanpur, that architect was Yashasvi Jaiswal - the true unsung hero of their crucial win over Punjab Kings.
