PCB also to consult players before appointing new Coach
Karachi, June 12 (UNI) Taking a leaf out of BCCI's book, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Nasim Ashraf said Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik and his senior teammates will be consulted before appointing the new national coach by July 1.
PCB officilas will talk to the players, especially the newly appointed skipper Shoaib Malik before finalising the name of the new coach, Ashraf said.
Returning from Chennai after attending a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Ashraf said some names have been shortlisted by the committee appointed to help the Board.
''We are considering a few coaches like Dav Whatmore and Steve Rixon and would appoint Pakistan's new coach by July 1,'' Ashraf said, adding his meeting with top officials of India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket Boards in Chennai was 'fruitful'.
The PCB chief also hit back on the comments made by couple of former Test cricketers for criticising the the Board's decision to advertise for the appointment of a new national coach.
Former Pakistan captains Javed Miandad and Intikhab Alam had termed the PCB's decision as an 'insult' for them and decided against applying for the job.
''If those players feel insulted then they should never apply to PCB, it's up to them,'' Ashraf said in an interview to 'Voice of America'.
