PCB assures "safe" Champions Trophy even in "worst case scenario"

By Staff

Karachi, Aug 12 : The PCB has reportedly assured the visiting team of the ICC Task Force, which is here to assess the overall security situation ahead of the Champions Trophy, that it was well-prepared to deliver a "safe and smooth" Champions Trophy next month even in "the worst case scenario".

The PCB told this to the members of the Task Force after the latter enquired about the same.

"They wanted to know whether Pakistan is prepared for the worst case scenario and the concerned authorities have assured them that we are fully ready," said a senior PCB official.

"The task force appears to be fully satisfied with the security arrangements being carried out for the Champions Trophy," The News quoted the unnamed official as saying further.

The task force led by ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat visited Islamabad and Lahore after arriving in Pakistan on Sunday evening. The ICC delegation met with senior officials in Islamabad and in Lahore and is now scheduled to make a similar visit of Karachi - the other venue for the Champions Trophy.

The task force is in Pakistan to assess the security situation in the country in a bid to allay fears of several leading cricketers from Australia, New Zealand, England and South Africa, who feel unsafe about coming here for the eight-nation tournament, added the paper.
