The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the revised contract for the players on Sunday (October 27), which was due already for four months.
The last contract was released in July 2023 and was not renewed this year. But on Sunday, the PCB finally named the list of players with a fresh contract, which includes 25 players across four categories. The contracts are valid for 12 months from July 1, 2024, as announced by PCB.

The PCB has made adjustments to the players' categories, with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan remaining the only cricketers in the top-tier category. This revision marks a notable decrease in the number of players in the higher categories; only five out of the 25 contracted players have been placed in Categories A or B, a stark contrast to the 11 included last year.
The PCB has introduced several new faces and welcomed back some previous members in this year's central contract list. Sajid Khan and Noman Ali, who were not featured last year, have earned their spots back in the C category following their remarkable performances against England. Additionally, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Hurraira, Usman Khan, and Irfan Khan have received their maiden central contracts.
"As part of the PCB's strategy to incentivise, encourage and reward talented and emerging cricketers, five players have been offered central contracts for the first time. They are Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Ali, Muhammad Irfan Khan and Usman Khan. These players have been placed in Category D," the media release from PCB wrote.
Shan Masood, who recently led Pakistan to their first Test series win since July 2023, retains his spot in Category B. However, his continuation in this category is contingent on his captaincy, as stated in a PCB media release.
Fakhar Zaman has been left out of the PCB central contract for the first time in eight years. The southpaw has been irregular in the Pakistan side but has shown his class in glimpses. But despite that, Fakhar finds no place in the PCB contract.
