'He will remain Captain', PCB chief Najam Sethi gives Babar Azam captaincy assurance

PCB chief Najam Sethi has assured Pakistan skipper Babar Azam of captaincy ahead of the upcoming international schedule. Babar Azam has been leading Pakistan in all formats, and Sethi claims he will continue to do so.

There have been rumours regarding Babar's captaincy future as the accomplished batter has struggled of late. Babar was rested for the Afghanistan T20I series, which further heightened the speculation of his future as Pakistan captain.

But Najam Sethi has confirmed that the Pakistan batter will remain their captain as long as he performs.

"As long as Babar is a successful batsman and a successful captain, he will remain captain. If you continue to lose series, people will start questioning your captaincy and other qualities," Sethi said on Waheed Khan's YouTube channel.

He also made a tweet recently abolishing all the speculations and confirmed Babar's status at the helm of Pakistan cricket.

Sethi also said on Monday regarding the captaincy controversy and confirmed he will seek assistance from the selectors and the head coach and take decisions accordingly.

"For months media and cricketing circles have been discussing pros and cons of retaining Babar Azam as captain in all formats of the game. Since this decision is ultimately Chairman's, I have sought views of Selection Committees headed by Shahid Afridi and now Haroon Rashid," Sethi tweeted on Monday.

"I will also be guided by what the Selectors and Director Cricket Ops and Head Coach have to say going forward. I expect they will be in the best position to advise me. Therefore we should support Babar and not make matter controversial in interests of national team," Sethi added.

Pakistan cricket team will be taking on New Zealand in a five-match T20I series which starts on April 14. They will subsequently play 5 ODIs against the Kiwis.
