Karachi, Aug 12 : PCB officials last evening reportedly conveyed to the national selectors that the Board had no objection over the possible selection of controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar in the country's squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy, from Sept 11-28.
Quoting PCB sources, The News reported that the selectors had been told to pick Shoaib in the 15-man if they deem him to be fit and in form.
There have been speculations that Shoaib's expected entry in the national squad after almost eight months could be blocked because he is yet to pay up a fine of Rs 70 lakh imposed on him by an Appeals Committee over repeated breaches of misconduct.
Initially, the PCB wanted Shoaib to pay the fine if he wanted to become eligible for national duty, but has decided to wait as the player's lawyers have given an assurance that the amount will be paid after a final court decision expected to come early September.
