Lahore, Apr 25: After witnessing the grand success of the inaugural IPL, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to launch its own Twenty20 domestic tournament next year that will offer franchises of city-based teams to sponsors.
''We will offer franchise of teams like in the IPL to interested companies and individuals and work has already begun in this direction. By next year everything would be ready,'' a PCB official told mediapersons. He further added that just like in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Twenty20 national championship in Pakistan will also include foreign players. ''But that will definitely depend on the sort of money the companies and individuals buying the franchise of teams are willing to offer for overseas players,'' the official said.
The PCB, however, has decided that from every city atleast four under-19 players will be included so as to promote the young talent and provide them an opportunity to play along with experienced players of the game.
The official claimed that the board's marketing department has already started its work to attract sponsors and companies for a Pakistan Premier League.
''The fact is that Twenty20 leagues are now a popular form of cricket and we don't want to lag behind other countries in this regard,'' he said.
