PCB Suspends All Domestic Cricket Amid Escalating Indo-Pak Tensions; PSL Shift Faces UAE Roadblock

Amid mounting military tension along the India-Pakistan border, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday, May 10, announced an immediate halt to all ongoing domestic cricket tournaments across the country. The decision comes after three days of heightened conflict involving cross-border fire and growing security concerns.

Currently active competitions - the President's Trophy Grade-II, the Regional Intra-District Challenge Cup, and the Inter-District U19 One-Day tournament - have all been put on pause.

This follows an earlier decision to postpone the Pakistan Super League (PSL), after the UAE reportedly declined PCB's request to shift the remaining matches to their territory.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board confirms that the ongoing President's Trophy Grade-II, Regional Intra-District Challenge Cup, Inter-District U19 One-Day tournament have been postponed with immediate effect due to prevailing security conditions in the country," the board said in an official statement.

"The tournaments will resume from the same stage later, and a revised schedule will be shared closer to the resumption," the statement further clarified.

The PCB's struggle to find a neutral venue for the PSL continues, with reports indicating that the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), despite its otherwise strong ties with BCCI, was hesitant to greenlight Pakistan's hosting request.

A source familiar with the matter attributed the reluctance to "security concerns emanating from the rising tension between India and Pakistan."

It's also understood that the ECB is cautious about being seen as too closely aligned with PCB in the current climate. Reports suggest the board is "wary of being perceived as an ally of PCB," which hosting the remainder of the PSL could imply.

Dubai, home to the International Cricket Council headquarters, adds a layer of political sensitivity. The ICC is presently chaired by Jay Shah, who also serves as secretary of the BCCI.

The PCB expressed gratitude towards those who've supported the PSL so far. "The Pakistan Cricket Board recognises the efforts and support of its partners, franchises, participating players, broadcasters, sponsors and organisers in having ensured the smooth conduct of the tournament thus far," it said.

Meanwhile, early Friday, the board had confirmed that the final eight PSL games - originally scheduled to be played in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Multan - were being planned for relocation to the UAE. However, the latest escalation has likely complicated those plans.

This wave of sporting disruptions follows a deadly incident in Pahalgam, India, where 26 civilians, including a Nepalese national, were killed by terrorists. In response, India launched strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure across the border - an operation that appears to have triggered broader regional instability, now affecting cricket on both sides.
