Dubai, June 18 : In a fresh attempt to get its fast bowler Mohammad Asif released from the Dubai Airport detention centre, the PCB is learnt to have sought the help from United Arab Emirates (UAE) ruler HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak al Nahyan.
PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf, who flew into Dubai from Bangladesh late on Sunday, was scheduled to meet HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi late Monday afternoon, the Daily Times quoted UAE sources as saying.
The meeting was likely to have been arranged by Pakistan Ambassador in UAE Ahsan Ullah Khan.
However, it could not be confirmed whether the PCB chairman was allowed to meet Asif at the detention center.
Besides being the minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sheikh Nahyan is also the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council (ADCC), added the paper.
Asif has been in the detention centre since June 1 after he was caught at the Dubai Airport in possession of banned drug hashish, while returning home from Mumbai after participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
