PCB chief goes into damage control mode, meets several former cricketers

By Super Admin

Lahore, Aug.19 (ANI): In an apparent damage control move, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ijaz Butt is trying to garner the support of as many former cricketers as he can.

Butt met several former Test cricketers including Mohsin Khan and Zaheer Abbas recently amid reports that the PCB is planning to engage former cricketers to build up a team of coaches for various levels.

The PCB management is working on the idea that engaging former greats is the only answer to criticism from a group of dissident former cricketers who have been coming heavy on the PCB for its policies, The Nation reports.

"I have always had great admiration for Mohsin as a cricketer. I had a very fruitful meeting with him last week where we discussed the batting problems in Pakistan team.Mohsin has shown his interest in assisting the PCB in the batting department," Butt said, adding "Zaheer has a wealth of experience and know how of the game and I am sure he has a lot to offer to cricket in Pakistan."

Sources said captain Younis Khan has asked the PCB to provide a young support staff ahead of the Champions Trophy. It was due to Khan's persistent demand the board appointed former captain Jawed Miandad as the team's batting advisor.

Meanwhile, Butt has rejected reports about fissures between the senior players of the team.

"Having met with manager Yawar Saeed, coach Intikhab Alam, assistant coach Aaqib Javed, Younis and other players on the Sri Lanka tour, I can say with absolute confidence that there is total harmony in the team. They were united and played as a unit," Butt said.

It may be noted that reports in media suggested that senior players like Sohaib Malik and vice-captain Misbah-ul-Haq were deliberately underperforming not cooperating with the captain.

Reports said the national squad was split in parts during the Sri Lanka series which resulted in the humiliating loss. (ANI)
