PCB holds GBM after 12 years

Karachi, Feb 11 (PTI) Pakistan Cricket Board today heldits General Body Meeting after a gap of 12 years with somemembers expressing reservations over the annual reports andaudited accounts.

The meeting, which was held for the first time since1998, was chaired by PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt who assured themembers that if they had any reservations, all documents wereavailable at the board offices for scrutiny and study.

The meeting attended by a total of 73 members includingformer heads of the board, Khalid Mehmood and Tauqir Zia, wasalso briefed by Butt about the spot-fixing scandal in detail.

Zia later told reporters that he still felt the boardshould have done more to protect the three players -- SalmanButt, Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Aamir -- banned for involvingin the spot-fixing scandal.

He, however, appealed that the entire nation should nowforget about cricket controversies and get behind the nationalteam so that it can perform well in the World Cup in India,Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The PCB in its press release said that both Mehmood andTauqir Zia had praised the PCB for holding the general bodyafter a gap of 12 years.

Butt informed the General Body that as per the PCBconstitution the GBM will be convened on an annual basis inthe future as well.

"Ijaz Butt also stressed on all the members thatfollowing up on the Historic achievements of the PakistanWomen Cricket Team it is essential that Women Cricket teams beformed in all districts and full support should be given topromote Women Cricket in the country," the release said.

The Agenda for the meeting included consideration of PCBAnnual Report and Future Programmes as devised by the PCBBoard of Governors, consideration of Audited Accounts andBudget Estimates and to make recommendations to the Board ofGovernors deemed appropriate for promotion of cricket inPakistan.
