PCB rubbishes report about Akhtar being under doping test scanner

By Super Admin

Karachi, Apr.12 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rubbished reports that fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar could be made to undergo dope tests ahead of the UAE one-day international series against Australia.

The PCB said that the rules formulated by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) do not apply on tournaments involving two countries only.

A board official said that dope tests would be carried ahead of the World Twenty20 Championship which is scheduled to be held in England in June.

"We didn't conduct dope tests because these were done just sometime back. But we will do it again before the T20 World Cup," The News quoted a PCB official, as saying.

Earlier, it was reported that Akhtar was on the the International Cricket Council's (ICC) anti-doping scanner ahead of the UAE series.

Sources said Akhtar's mysterious and sudden increase in fitness levels just weeks after suffering a major knee injury could attract the ICC's attention.

Akhtar, 33, has a history of doping scandals against his name. He tested positive for a banned substance- nandrolone during the Champions Trophy in India in 2006 following which he was handed out a two-year suspension the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). (ANI)
