PCB should act 'wisely': Ex Pak cricketers

Karachi, Oct.18 (ANI): Concerned by the recent controversy surrounding the Pakistan cricket, which was created following the resignation of captain Younis Khan, former cricketers have said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should deal with the issue carefully and avoid taking any hasty decision.

Former captain Aamir Sohail said the PCB should act 'wisely' in the case, as Pakistan cricket, which has been going through a tough time, needs some 'mature' decisions.

"It is a critical phase for Pakistan cricket and we really need some mature decisions," The News quoted Sohail, as saying.

Criticizing the team management for being unable to handle the crisis, he said it has failed completely to address and resolve the issues within the team.

"When you made Younis Khan the new captain after removing Shoaib Malik, you were obviously thinking long-term. If there was an attitude problem, if there are any factions (in the team) now then it was the job of the national team management to control it," Sohail said.

Terming the current situation 'highly unfortunate', another former captain Ramiz Raja backed Younis Khan, saying he should continue to lead the side.

"Younis is a valuable player for Pakistan as a Test match leader. He has shown the sense of honesty by saying that captaincy is affecting his performance and that's a good sign," Raja said.

Raja also criticized PCB chief Ijaz Butt for his laid back attitude and the irresponsible manner in which he has been handling the board issues.

" He (Butt) has only two options. He can either continue with Younis as captain for both Tests and 50-over matches or appoint (Shahid) Afridi as the captain of the one-day squad," he said. (ANI)
