Peshawar Zalmi injury update, key players in PSL 2023

No new injury updates have been reported from Peshawar Zalmi, who will be looking to bounce back after the big loss to Qalandars.

The match saw both their in-form openers, skipper Babar Azam (7) and Mohammad Haris (0) fail to make an impact when asked to chase a huge 241. The failures could be seen as an anomaly as Azam has scored two half centuries this PSL, including 75 two innings ago. Haris has been in good touch prior to the duck as well with two 40-run knocks while striking above 180.

Loss to Lahore, however, had some positives as well with young Saim Ayub getting back in form with a 34-ball 51 after scoring 3 and 0 before. This was his second half-century this PSL.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who went silent after scoring 92 in his debut innings for Peshawar, also slammed his second half-century with a 23-ball 55 on a surface that had runs on the offer.

Sri Lanka's Bhanuka Rajapaksa was drafted into the playing 11 for compatriot Dasun Shanaka and showed a 14-ball 24 in return. Rajapaksa was not effective in the two innings before being dropped as he scored 1 and 6 respectively.

Rovman Powell and James Neesham, who have been entrusted with slog-over heavy hitting, couldn't make much of an impact in the chase with innings of 20 and 15 respectively.

Peshawar Zalmi's bowling a headache

There's plenty of concern for Peshawar bowling due to lack of star performers. This has led to shuffling by skipper Azam with the likes of Salman Irshad, Shaad Masood, Usman Qadir, Salman Irshad have went for plenty of runs while struggling to pick wickets.

Powell and Neesham were ineffective too as they combined to give 79 runs in five overs. Powell (37 runs in 2 overs) did picke a wicket.

Senior pacer Wahab Riaz made the most out of the early movement provided by Lahore's wicket as he returned to wicket-taking form with two dismissals but gave away 45 runs in four overs.

There's no update on Mohammad Amir's return from a groin injury and has missed back-to-back games against Multan Sultans.

Karachi Kings top-order looks sorted

Karachi Kings openers Matthew Wade (46) and James Vince are in good touch heading into the game. Vince scored 27 in the last innings and fired 75 and 42 before that; striking at a rate of 175.76.

Karachi's batting was further strengthened with the superb debut of Tayyab Tahir, who fired 65 against in-form Multan Sultans bowlers as he replaced misfiring Haider Ali. Shoaib Malik didn't get to face more than nine deliveries in the last game but has been their second-highest run-getter after skipper Imad Wasim.

The captain himself has been the most impactful player of the side with 180 runs in six games and has picked seven wickets as well with the new ball.

Malik also has returned to bowling with the 41-year-old veteran taking 3/16 in the last game after taking 1/29 a match ago.

Ben Cutting is another all-rounder among Kings' rank but had no role to play in the last game as his opportunity with the bat never came while he hasn't been used as a bowler in the last two games by Wasim.

South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi in particular did the bidding as he bowled a spell of 3/18 on PSL debut.

Among other bowlers, Aamer Yamin had an off-day as he picked no wickets in his three overs but is still the team's second-highest wicket-taker with five wickets.

Akif Javed, who picked 4/28 in his first game after replacing Hamza Mir, took 2/8 to take his wicket-tally to six in three games.
