Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi and Shadab Khan's Islamabad United square off in another do-or-die affair with the winner progressing the PSL 2024 final.
Peshawar Zalmi suffered a lopsided defeat to Multan Sultans in the qualifier while Islamabad United defeated Quetta Gladiators in the Eliminator 1 yesterday. The final is scheduled on March 18.
In their most recent match against Multan, the Peshawar Zalmi batting unit let them down with a below-average total of 146, which proved to be no match for Multan, captained by Rizwan. They must make this right and provide their bowlers with a high enough score to put the opposition on the back foot.
However, Islamabad United defeated Quetta Gladiators in a one-sided match by a score of 39 runs. They have their batting and bowling together and have won five of their previous six games, which has given them motivation.
The leading run scorer, Babar Azam (544 runs in 10 innings), will have to lead his team from the front. Saim Ayub, who amassed 272 runs in ten innings and claimed wickets during the powerplay, was an important batsman as well as bowler. Luke Wood leads Peshawar in wicket-taking with 11 in 10 innings, and he claimed the crucial wicket of Kieron Pollard in the most recent game. Naveen-ul-Haq, who has nine wickets in six innings, is a temperamental player for Peshawar.
After making an impressive debut, Martin Guptill achieved a sophisticated half-century (56 runs) at the top. In 10 innings, Agha Salman has amassed 295 runs at an average of 36.88, including two half-centuries. Shadab Khan, the captain of Islamabad, has performed admirably all around. With a strike rate of 147.55, he amassed 301 runs, three fifties, and ten wickets.
