Puneri Paltan began their PKL 2024 campaign in commanding fashion, securing a decisive 35-25 victory over Haryana Steelers at the GMCB Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.

Led by Gaurav Khatri, who top-scored with 7 points, the defending champions displayed clinical efficiency throughout the match, with notable contributions from Pankaj Mohite, Mohit Goyat, Aman, and captain Aslam Inamdar.

The match opened with a quick raid from Inamdar, setting the tone for an intense first half. The early exchanges saw both teams trading points evenly, keeping the scoreboard tight. However, it was midway through the first half that the momentum shifted in Puneri Paltan's favour. Gaurav Khatri's key raid, which inflicted an all out on the Steelers, handed Puneri Paltan a 6-point advantage. This surge allowed them to close the first half with a solid 19-13 lead.

The second half began cautiously, with both sides opting for a more defensive approach. Puneri Paltan, however, maintained their 6-point cushion, ensuring that the Steelers couldn't find any openings to stage a comeback.

Despite a late push from Haryana's Mohammadreza Shadloui, Puneri Paltan's defense held firm. Inamdar inflicted a decisive all out with less than three minutes remaining, effectively sealing the victory for his side. Puneri Paltan's strong teamwork and tactical play proved too much for the Steelers, leading to a comfortable opening win in their title defense.
