Players to sign contracts after return from World Cup: BCCI
Mumbai, Feb 20 (UNI) The contentious contracts for the Indian cricketers would be implemented after the players return from the World Cup in West Indies beginning next month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced here today.
This was agreed upon after a meeting of the Indian cricket Board officials and skipper Rahul Dravid in Mumbai today.
Niranjan Shah, the BCCI secretary, said in a release, ''After a meeting between the Board officials and Rahul Dravid this morning, it is mutually agreed that the Players' Contract would be implemented after the return of the team from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.'' The board officials in their meeting with Dravid discussed the draft copy of the contracts in detail and views of both -- the officials as well as the players, represented by Rahul Dravid -- were exchanged.
The contracts would be in effect from October 1, 2006 to September 31, 2007 and the players would be paid accordingly for the period from October 1 till the date they sign the contract, the release added.
