The copy of the 2-page letter has gone viral on social media. Here's a look at it.

In his message, PM Modi likened Ashwin's retirement announcement to his famous 'carrom ball' delivery. Acknowledging Ashwin's rise as one of India's top wicket-takers in global cricket, as well as the personal sacrifices he made, PM Modi expressed his heartfelt thanks to the off-spinner from Tamil Nadu for his immense contributions to both the sport and the nation.

''Your retirement from international cricket has surprised fans not only in India but across the world. At a moment when everyone was eagerly awaiting more off-breaks, you delivered a carrom ball that bowled us all over'', the Honourable Prime Minister wrote.

He also brought forward Ashwin's selflessness that defined his dedication to the game even during the toughest period of his life.

"Even during challenging times, such as when your mother was hospitalized or during the Chennai floods, you prioritized the team above personal commitments. Such selflessness underscores your love for the game'', he further added.

Debuting in 2010, Ashwin quickly became one of the fastest bowlers to reach 300 Test wickets. Known for his sharp variations and strategic bowling, Ashwin has been instrumental in India's success across formats. In addition to his bowling, he has contributed with the bat, showcasing his all-round skills. Ashwin has been a vital part of India's bowling attack in numerous victories, which includes the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the ODI World Cup in 2011 and also the Champions Trophy victory in 2013.
