Ponting has arrived with the weakest Australian team: Yuvraj

By Staff

Hyderabad, Oct 5 (UNI) Foreseeing a tough Test tour ahead for the World Champions, Yuvraj Singh today claimed that Ricky Ponting has arrived here with the weakest Australian team in recent times but also cautioned India not to take their opponents lightly in the upcoming four-match Test series.

Australia just managed to hold the Board President's XI, led by Yuvraj, to a draw but the home team was a clear dominant side throughout the four days of the match which ended here today.

With an unimpressive spin attack, Australia failed to challenge the Indian batsmen who battered their lone specialist spinner Jason Krejza in both the innings. The visitors' were also found susceptible against the Indian spinners which must have delighted Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.

''Definitely, this is the weakest Australian side in recent past,'' Yuvraj said after the match.

''They do not have a good spin attack as they had during their last tour when Shane Warne was part of the team. In such a situation, the fast bowlers have a tough job at hand. I think they would start the series pretty even,'' Yuvraj said.

The southpaw did admit that the Australian team does possess a good pace attack but added that in sub-continent a team has to be good in their spin department as well.

''Even though they have a good pace attack, still you cannot say the same for their spin department. It's going to be hard work for them on the tracks here,'' he conceded.

Yuvraj, who was overlooked for the first two Tests against Australia, scored a belligerent 113 and was particularly severe on Krejza who went wicketless in the two innings.

''Their pace attack is pretty good so I had to target other bowlers and I decided to go after him (Krejza),'' Yuvraj stated.

The four-match Test series will kick off on October 9 in Bangalore, which will be followed by Tests in Mohali, Delhi and Nagpur.
