Prithvi Shaw might not have played a single match for India in almost 18 months but he has regularly made headlines with his off-field controversies.

His form in domestic cricket has been exquisite but selectors have stayed mum for long. They named him in the 3-match T20I series against New Zealand, however, the likes of Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill were preferred ahead of him.

The extremely talented cricketer has been backed by many including Gautam Gambhir to feature in the shortest format of the game.

Gambhir is also of the opinion that, the Mumbai batter should be given a longer rope and prepared to open in the T20 World Cup 2024. But there is also a section which believes that the controversial nature of the youngster can see him destroy his career like Vinod Kambli - also a Mumbai cricketer, a childhood prodigy and a player who was rated higher than his friend Sachin Tendulkar in terms of quality and range he had in his batting.

Shaw has courted two fresh controversies in last three days. Let's have a look at a few of his off-field controversies which made headlines.

Prithvi Shaw selfie row

On Thursday, February 16 - Prithvi Shaw got into a scuffle with fans who repeatedly asked him for a selfie. According to a complaint by Shaw's friend, fans attacked with baseball bats and smashed the front and rear windows of their car.

"Oshiwara Police has registered a case against 8 persons over an alleged attack on the car of a friend of Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw after Shaw refused to take a selfie for the second time with two people," Mumbai Police was quoted as saying by ANI.

A video from the incident has gone viral. In the short clip, the Delhi Capitals star can be seen on the street at night alongside a few policemen as a girl can be heard accusing Shaw and his friends of assault.

Prithvi Shaw's 'edited' Valentine's Day post

A screenshot of Shaw's alleged "Happy Valentine's my wifey" Instagram story started trending on Valentine's Day. Soon, the cricketer posted a story clarifying that the viral post was fake and edited.

In the alleged Instagram Story, he was seen posing in a candid fashion with a girl. The girl seen in the picture is allegedly of actor Nidhhi Tapadiaa.

"Someone editing my pics and showing stuffs that I haven't put on my story or on my page. So ignore all the tags and msges thx," Shaw clarified via his Instagram story," Shaw wrote denying posting any V-day story.

Prithvi Shaw Goa controversy

The 23-year-old had also found himself in news for the wrong reasons in May 2021. He was stopped and questioned by police for breaking lockdown rules and travelling to Goa for vacation. The star batter was reportedly unaware of the rules put forth by the Maharashtra government as left for Goa from the state without applying for an e-pass.

Prithvi Shaw cough syrup

The BCCI handed Shaw an 8-month ban in 2019 for a doping violation. The cricketer had later told that the ban substance entered his body because of cough syrup.

"I think dad and I are responsible for the cough syrup controversy. I remember we were playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Indore and I was down with a cold and cough at that time. So I had gone out for dinner and was coughing a lot. So I spoke to my dad. He asked me to take the cough syrup available in the market. What I did wrong was did not consult the physio, which was wrong on my part," Shaw had told Cricbuzz in 2021.
