Prithvi Shaw's promising career seems to have hit a roadblock, with his recent performances for Mumbai raising concerns once again. Despite showcasing immense talent early in his career, Shaw has struggled to maintain consistency, and his Mumbai captain, Shreyas Iyer, has now given him a reality check.
Iyer, a seasoned professional, addressed Shaw's struggles, highlighting the young opener's need for a significant shift in his approach. "He needs to get his work ethics right, and if he does that, the sky is the limit for him," Iyer is quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

The Mumbai captain stressed that Shaw must focus on improving his attitude towards his game. According to Iyer, it's up to Shaw to figure out how to turn things around, as no one can "babysit" him at this stage of his career.
Shaw's recent form has been disappointing, with his performance in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy offering a mix of cameos and low scores. Across Mumbai's nine games, Shaw accumulated 197 runs at a strike rate of 156.34 but averaged just under 22. His inconsistency has drawn criticism, especially after he was dropped from the Mumbai Ranji side earlier in the season due to fitness concerns.
Shaw's issues extend beyond domestic cricket. Earlier this year, he was dropped by the Delhi Capitals in the IPL and went unsold in the 2025 IPL auction. Iyer's candid remarks underscore the need for Shaw to take responsibility for his future.
"We can't babysit anyone, right? Every professional who is playing at this level, they need to know what they should be doing," Iyer pointed out. He stressed that Shaw, having played so much cricket, needs to sit back, reflect, and find the solutions on his own.
This harsh yet constructive feedback follows a letter from former Australia captain Greg Chappell, who advised Shaw to embark on a "journey of self-reflection." Despite the guidance from his peers, Shaw's ability to move forward depends entirely on his self-discipline and commitment
