Multan Sultans all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been reprimanded by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a level-one breach of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during his side’s match against Lahore Qalandars in Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.
The 35-year-old gave a fiery send-off to Lahore's number three batter Abdullah Shafique. On the fourth delivery of the 13th over, the West Indies legend bowled a full length delivery outside the off stump line as the right-hander smashed it straight into the hands of the towering cricketer. Just after grabbing the stunner, Pollard pointed towards the pavilion and kept on staring aggressively at Shafique who walked back with his head down. The 23-year-old scored 48 runs off 35 balls and was the second-highest run-scorer from his side after Sam Billings (54).
With the gesture the fomer Mumbai Indians (MI) star breached Article 2.5, which read “Using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during a match”.
"Pollard pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Muhammad Javed Malik. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Martin Saggers and Faisal Afridi, third umpire Ahsan Raza and fourth umpire Shozab Raza," PCB said in a press release.
In the match, Pollard picked two wickets after bowling two overs for just 16 runs. He also top-scored for his team with 39 runs (two fours and three sixes) off 28 balls while batting at number six.
However, Multan Sultans failed to chase the 181-run target and lost the match by 21 runs. With the win Lahore Qalandars became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. Star leg-spinner Rashid Khan was adjudged Man of the Match for picking three wickets for 15 runs in four overs.
