PSL 2023: Multan Sultans vs Quetta Gladiators key players

Multan Sultans key players

Multan Sultans, led by Mohammad Rizwan, must be blaming their luck for losing the last game to Lahore by just 1 run in a thrilling encounter as Khushdil Shah made a sincere effort to hit big shots against pacer Zaman Khan, who eventually got the job done under pressure.

The match had plenty of positives for the home side to take from as well with skipper Mohammad Rizwan scoring 75 while forging an opening stand of 100 runs with Shan Masood, who scored 35.

Multan Sultans' star all-rounder Kieron Pollard showed some form with the bat as well and was unfortunately run out after scoring a 12-ball 20 in the chase. David Miller couldn't score big but showed glimpses of his good form with a 20-ball 25 knock, laced with three boundaries.

Among Multan Sultans' bowlers, leg-spinner Usmana Mir maintained his bowling line and length as he picked two wickets and gave away just 25 runs on a surface that assisted batting. Local boy Ihsanullah picked a couple of wickets as well but the 20-year-old pacer gave away 37 runs in his four-over spell as well. West Indies pacer Akeal Hosein failed to contain runs with the new ball but was more impactful later on.

Quetta Gladiators key players, form guide

Quetta Gladiators, on the other hand, are beginning their season and will look to leave behind the memory of last season when they finished second from the bottom with four wins in 10 games.

The Sarafaraz Ahmed-led side will reestablish the fact that they are the same franchise that won the title in 2019 and reached two finals back in 2016 and 2017.

The form of Iftikhar Ahmed excites the Quetta fans as he shot six sixes in an over during an exhibition match in front of home fans at Quetta's Bugti Stadium. Also, in spotlight is their young pacer Naseem Shah, who enters the tournament with seven wickets in three games in the Bangladesh Premier League recently.

Their opener Jason Roy scored a half-century during the SA20 for Paarl Royals but his 61-run innings was followed by a duck and 10. James Vince, however, has been consistent with 83* for Gulf Giants two innings ago before Quetta's captain Sarfaraz has showed good form during the home Test against New Zealand but will that reflect well in the shorter format or not, is a question ask many.

The team also includes Umar Akmal, who shot three half-centuries in his last five innings in the domestic circuit at the end of the year while Will Smeed's recent form in ILT20 doesn't instill much confidence in him either.

Wanindu Hasaranga is expected to play a key role as he scored runs in bulk in ILT20 and was effective with the ball throughout the tournament while Mohammad Nawaz is also expected to play a key role as a finisher and has been economical with the ball.
