PSL 2024: Akeal Hosein picks sixth Pakistan Super League hat-trick, full list

Quetta Gladiator's left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein registered PSL 2024’s first hat-trick while playing against Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi at the Rawalpindi Cricket Ground on Friday, March 8.

This performance with the ball gave him a place among the other five distinguished bowlers who achieved this milestone before him in the Pakistan Super League.

  • Junaid Khan playing for Multan Sultans on February 23, 2018 in Dubai against Lahore Qalandars, preyed on Yasir Shah, Cameron Delport, and Hasan Raza on the trot.
  • Imran Tahir playing for Multan Sultans on March 3, 2018 in Sharjah against Quetta Gladiators, got out Hasan Khan, John Hastings, and Rahat Ali in successive deliveries.
  • Mohammad Sami playing for Islamabad United on February 22, 2019 in Sharjah against Peshawar Zalmi, scalped the wickets of Wahab Riaz, Umaid Asif, and Hasan Ali perpetually.
  • Abbas Afridi playing for Multan Sultans on March 11, 2023 in Rawalpindi against Quetta Gladiators, picked up the wickets of Mohammad Nawaz, Umaid Asif, and Umar Akmal one after the other.
  • Akeal Hosein playing for Quetta Gladiators on 8 March 2024 in Rawalpindi against Peshawar Zalmi, picked the wickets of Aamer Jamal, Mehran Mumtaz, and Luke Wood on the trot.

Hosein finished his spell with outstanding figures of 4/23. The West Indies star picked the wicket of Babar Azam in the 13th over before registering the hat-trick in the 16th over of the game.

Aamer Jamal was the first one to fall on the second delivery bowled outside the off. Jamal looked for a late cut but got caught behind the wicket by Evans. The batter was initially given not out by the on-field umpire but UltraEdge confirmed that there was a definite edge on it.

Mehran Mumtaz was the second victim of Hosein who got knocked over on the not-so-great delivery but luck was shining on the Hosein as Mumtaz dragged it onto the stumps off a thick under-edge.

The third one was the arm-ball from round the wicket. Luke Wood got forward to defend but ended up edging the ball towards Rilee Rossouw, who took a sharp catch at slip with the ball almost past him.
