Islamabad United vs Peshawar Zalmi, PSL 2024: Islamabad United posted a crucial 29-run win against play-off rivals Peshawar Zalmi to go level on points at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Monday (March 4).

Sent to bat first after winning the toss, Shadab Khan's 51-ball 80 knock helped Islamabad United from a poor start of losing their openers early to a 196/4 in 20 overs. Agha Salman (37) and Azam Khan (29*) also helped in putting a strong total. In response, Peshawar Zalmi could only scored 167/9 after getting reduced to 18/5 at the end of their powerplay.

Shadab Khan | Player of the Match and Islamabad captain: "You know Pindi's pitches, how it plays but tonight was different, it was spungy, slow. If you get momentum here, it's difficult to halt it. There was no set total, the plan was to get a boundary every over. Short boundaries here and that was the idea.

"The way I was playing, the way it was seaming after the 10th, 11th over, I knew it would be difficult with the bowlers we have and you know Naseem, he can take wickets against anyone. I'm in rhythm and finger-spinners were not working tonight. Hunain is getting better day by day. You get a balanced XI only as the tournament progresses and now we know what our best XI is."

Babar Azam | Peshawar captain: "It is a par score and you need a good start but unfortunately we lost 4 wickets in the powerplay but the way Aamer Jamal played, you never know, those sort of innings are rare. [on his run-out] It was a wrong call, it was too early, miscalculation happens sometimes. Part of the game.

"I back my decision to bowl first. Here second innings is always chaseable and whatever cricket we have played here, it is good to chase. And after 6 overs, it is easy to play spinners. We have a lot of positives even in bowling, there were short spells which were good. We executed things which we did not do in the last game. It's so cold tonight."

Hunain Shah: "It is a brilliant opportunity. The team is supporting me a lot. Islamabad is known to support youngsters. I try to focus on my strengths. I was told to bowl on a hard length which is my strength and to hit the seam, which is what I did.

"[On Naseem] He is very experienced, not only for Pakistan, he is one of the best in the world. He advises me a lot not only during the match but before as well. When I took the first wicket, he came and told me not to get too excited. As a bowler you have to learn every day.

"I try to perfect every ball, be it length, yorker as much as possible so that I can execute on a given day. [on Shadab] As a captain he doesn't talk, he talks more as a friend. When we get hit for a boundary, he says don't worry and to back yourself. He treats us well."
