LQ vs IU, PSL 2024: Islamabad United started the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League with a bang as they comfortably defeated two-time champions Lahore Qalandars by eight wickets at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday (February 18)

Shadab Khan scored 74 not out while adding an unbeaten 132 runs for the third wicket with Salman Ali Agha (64*) as Islamabad United chased down 196-run target with 10 balls to spare. Half centuries for Lahore Qalandars by Rassie van der Dussen (71) and Shahibzada Farhan (57) went in vain after United captain Shadab Khan asked them to bat first.

Shadab Khan | Islamabad United captain: "I think we have a good bowling side and a good batting side as well so we wanted to put pressure on them. We knew dew will come so we wanted to bowl first.

"(On Agha Salman) It's amazing, we picked him in the draft and everyone knows what his role is now. (On Ubaid Shah) A youngster came in and bowled at 145 plus, hopefully with time he will get better and better."

Shaheen Afridi | Lahore Qalandars captain: "Credit to Salman and Shadab. Not easy for the bowlers bowling second and there was dew. We had Rashid and he always made impact in the middle overs, we can't do anything as he is injured. If you take catches, you win matches but we dropped two catches."

Shadab Khan | Player of the Match: "I came back from injury so sometimes you need time. You need one match to get to form and today was that match. I came after the powerplay and wanted to control the runs and got a wicket as well. Last 3-4 months weren't going good. After injury, you need some time. I'm happy now."

Agha Salman: "I always wanted to play for them, I think their playing style suits me. After the first innings, we knew it was a par score because there was dew, 180-190 is gettable at Lahore. We planned to hit one boundary an over and tried to do that on the first or second ball of the over and we were successful in it. First game is important and we are happy to win it. They always have a good team and have a good setup. I'm happy playing for them."
